April 28 - Not a nice day, it was windy and rainy. During the afternoon several boats came into the marina. Some during the last part of the front when the wind was blowing pretty hard. A sailboat was having difficulty trying to get into the slip they were assigned and did circles in the fairway several times until they were finally able to pull into another slip. This sailboat was a Texas boat and we knew the people on board. What a small world! As it usually goes, after the boats were all settled in the wind stopped and the sky became clear. Sometimes it's best to just hang out until it passes!
We met some very nice people on the docks and some were even "loopers". They come over to The Wharf for a Mainship Rendezvous every year and also invited their friends who have other types of boats. We were talking about our plans to head to Palafox and someone in the group told us that the marina was pretty full. Not good! Josh and I decided to check it out first thing in the morning after picking up our rent car. Our plan was to leave the boat there to drive home for Daniel's graduation, so securing a slip is top priority!
S/V Longhawk and S/V Delayed Gratification plan on heading out tomorrow to anchor for a few days before going into Palafox marina. We all headed up to Ginny Lane for dinner. This may be our last gathering with Jeff and Crystal because they are planning to head on to Granada after a short stay in Pensacola.
April 29 - Rent car day! Josh and I picked up the rent car and were on the road to Pensacola. We arrived at Palafox Marina by 9:00 am to check thing out. Captain Ron was off so we talked to his assistant Jeff, and he told us that they were not taking any more reservations. The marina is pretty full and that we needed to call before we came to see if they had any slips open.
We explained that we wanted a slip for a month so he found one that someone was leaving so we leased it. This way we know that we have a safe spot to leave the boat to go home for Daniel's graduation. It's also cheaper renting for a month than for a few weeks. Because we knew that we would be driving home for a week and would like to play around Pensacola for a week or so more, and (depending on the weather) it could be even longer. We also would like to check out some of the anchorages in this area and know we had a slip to go back to, so taking a slip for the full month was the best thing to do. Our plan is to leave The Wharf on Wednesday, try to anchor at Fort McRee then go into Pensacola to our slip.
Curtis, Diane, Kay and Al arrived back from Texas early evening so we all drove over to The Backyard for some Bar-B-Q.
April 30 - Along with the Mainship Rendezvous The Wharf was having a car show. What a show it was!
May 1 - Overcast and nothing to do except to lounge around, read and watch TV. Yup, it's time to move on. Come on Wednesday!
