Hastings to Peterborough (Little Lake Marina) - May 28, 2018

Off we go to Peterborough to a marina!  The morning started off very foggy.  Today we have some open water, Rice Lake, so we will be able to pick up our speed and stretch our legs.  Only one lock today!

As you can see, Teak has settled in nicely!

Rice Lake

OK, the only not so nice part of this trip is all the flying bugs and spiders.  Who would have thought that out in the middle of Rice Lake we would get bombarded with all these flying little bugs?  They covered out boat, inside and out!  The only good thing about these were that they did not bite.  Several people we have met have bites all over from what they call "black flies".  They look like small black mosquitoes.  I do have some bites and hope to keep it to just a few!

After Rice Lake we entered the TSW again.  We were not sure we were going the right way at first.  It was like being in the back bayous of Louisiana, very narrow.

Spiders everywhere!

This is an example of the type of docks you see along the waterway.  They remove the decking and raise them for the winter.  This one is still lifted out of the water.

After we settled in, our new friends Judith and Gordon came to welcome us.  Josh and Judith have been talking back and forth for months on the Defever forum.  Very nice people!

It was a long slow day.  We had only one lock before the marina but this time Barry and I were both hit with the water current pushing the boat away from the lock.  It makes it difficult to hold on to the lines.  Josh would help me but this time he had to use the bow and stern thusters to move us back to the wall.  This happens at a certain water level and when too much water is allowed to come in.  Six locks in a day is enough for me. Now I know why people who rush this trip do not like it.  You must take your time and enjoy the beauty!  We are going to spend a day in Peterborough and enjoy the town.
