June 3 - 6, 2016 New Orleans

June 3 - The weathermen were calling for a high chance of thunderstorms and wind.  We did get the wind and it was nice sitting on the back deck reading a book and watching over the water.  As you can see below our friendly Coasties went by and a fishing boat that was just launched from the shipyard was having difficulty docking with the wind and current.  Seabrook Marina had three of their people out helping with the docking.

June 4 - You can only sit around so much so we decided to rent a car for the day.  First we went to the store to get some items hoping this would be our last grocery run this trip, then we drove over to a restaurant that one of the harbormasters at Palafox told us about.  After lunch we headed over the Lake Pontchartrain bridge to Mandeville.  What a nice town!  From Mandeville we drove down highway 190 to Slidell and then back to New Orleans on highway 11.  They were again calling for a high percentage of thunderstorms but still nothing until that evening when we got a big one.  The wind was whipping and the rain was coming down.  I told myself that's why we are still hanging out here and not moving on.  I would not like to be at anchor with this coming through.

As we were waiting for the rent car place to pick us up I noticed this sign at the RV park.  Not sure if all RV parks do this but this is a first for us at marinas.

A big thanks to Jeff at Palafox for recommending this New Orleans restaurant to us.  It was yummy!!!!

June 5 & 6 - Still calling for a high percentage of thunderstorms so we sit around and wait.  We did laundry and Josh checked the boat systems to get ready for our departure on the 7th.  When we depart New Orleans we will be leaving with unknown plans.  It will all depend on how fast we get through the locks, if we can make it all the way to Houma or have to anchor in Lafitte.  The days are really hot now and the last part of our trip will not be so pleasant.  We are again reminded why we do not cruise during the summer months!

More of our friendly Coasties going by!
