We thought today would be an unexciting day. NOPE! Boaters will understand some of this. Al and Kay started to install their new windlass first thing in the morning. After lunch Josh connected the current to it and whoo hoo! they are back in business. Everything worked out fantastic! The rest of the day we did chores and lounged around hoping for an no excitement day. At 5 PM we gathered for docktails and appetizers.
Pat brought out canned bread for all of us to taste and it was not so bad!
The flies are really bad and they liked the can that the bread came in so Sam decided to cover them up!
Now the excitement really starts! Diane entertained us by killing flies with a fly swatter.
We actually thought the fly swatting was going to be our excitement for the day until we noticed a tow getting ready for a handoff to a person on shore. The handoff did not go too well! The case of OFF did not make it to the boat and ended up in the water. Only boaters could save the day. Everyone ran to the rescue! Diane and Curtis got involved in the rescue and they fetched the box out of the water, bagged the box and threw it to the tow as they backed up for their bootie! The OFF was saved!!!!! The tow captain, crew and handoff person were happy! Out here in the swamps OFF is a necessity!
Excitement - two down, here comes number three! We were just about ready to retire for the evening and along comes a house boat. We could not figure out what they were doing so we all ran to our boats to fend off. Out of control boats really scare us. This boat was out of control! We later found out that the captain had lost his steering just as he was entering the marina
.
We were all ready with bumpers on our boats to fend off the boat and try to help him down the fairway to a safe dockage. Thank goodness we were around for this situation. It might have turned out not so pretty! It's kind of amazing of the different types of boaters that we have encountered. You may not like what I have to say but some of these boaters should not be on the water. Doing your homework, having a safe boat and communication goes a long way!
