April 7, 2016 St. Mary's Parish Docks to Houma

Around 7:30 we were the first boat to pull out into the ICW to wait for the others before moving on our way to Houma.  The current was strong in the river and it felt like we were in slow motion.  We were only doing 4.3 - 4.4 knots until we got closer to the other side of the Atchafalaya river going towards the Bayou Boeuf Locks. Then the current shifted and our speed doubled!

M/V Cambria pulling out of marina at marker 99!

S/V Sweet Tides pulling out of marina at marker 99!

We are on the move (going real slow because of the current).

Morgan City / Berwick twin bridges and train bridge.  This is where we usually stop.

Check out the name of this tow!  Miss Madeline!  that's Josh's mother's name.

Here we go into the into the Bayou Boeuf Locks!

The lock is closed behind S/V Sweet Tides

The lock is open on the other side and the tow in front is being very couteous and gave us a slow bell leaving.

Moving out of the lock.

This is a new towboat being built.

Check out this nice sailboat docked in the middle of all the industrial yards.

Does something look funny on this boat?

Can you see it now?  Something happened to it's "tree".

Check out the car ferry.  Name is "Woods Hole",we think it's from Massachusetts.

Unbelievable all the birds that we saw today.  One after another, what a sight to see!

Gibson, LA swoop area, just gorgeous.  This is another area that I love.  So much wildlife!

Yup! That is a fisherman in the middle of the ICW.

Someone is enjoying the trip sleeping!

Man Cave!

M/V Cambria is now "M/V Lily Pusher"!  She made a trail for us to follow.

 Gator!

Look what's coming our way!

Out of the swamp into the rich life!

The tows called this "the rich man's house".  Look at the outdoor kitchen and the swimming pool with the bridge.

Another outdoor kitchen.

The people who live here have a helicopter!

M/V Cambria turning into Houma Twin Bridges to dock!

Check out the flyer that they gave us when we arrived.  This was taken on our 2012 trip.  M/V Last Trade made the cover!

When we arrived at the Houma Twin Bridges marina there was another sailboat already docked.  Boat owners Jeff and Crystal were very friendly and joined us for dock tails and out to dinner at a local Chinese restaurant.  They now plan to tag along with us as far as Pensacola.
