April 18, 2016 Houma to Lafitte

We were finally able to head out of Houma heading New Orleans.  Kay was our lock communicator and Curtis was our bridge communicator.  On the way, Kay got a call from the Industrial Locks (the one on the east side of the Mississippi) telling her that they are having gate problems and we all needed to tie up at the "dolphin" until they got it fixed.  This trip has been plagued with all kinds of things so it's either head back home or "go with the flow".  Go with the flow it is!

Lafitte was still "iffy" on where we were going to stop.  The marina/dock on the Barataria waterway was out of the question so that left anchoring in Lake Salvador or by the cemetery that is close to the old Fleming Canal Store (now the airboat dock) or possibility tying up to a barge that we tied to two years ago and take our chances of being run off, or at the public boat launch/park.  As the day went on and the front that went through Houston was still active and moving into Louisiana, we were not having a good feeling about being at anchor.  We have learned not to trust the weather people, most of the time they are wrong.  The plan was to try and find a dock to tie up to.

The water was really high so we went to check out the park area first, then head back to anchor if we had to.  Josh determined that we could fit all six of us rafting up along the park dock if we could get in with the depth issue.  Thank goodness it was deep enough!  Five of us tied up to the park docks and S/V Longhawk decided to anchor at the cemetery.  We were all safe and secure before dark!  The weather people were right this time and the storm dissipated.

Bye bye Houma

The water was so high that the boat launch was under water.  The good thing was it was now deep enough for us to dock!
