April 8, 2016 Houma

We started our day going over to the hospital for breakfast.  After breakfast we received confirmation that Pontchartrain Landing would not be able to take all of us, they only had two slips available.  The decision was made to stay in Houma until we get a good weather window and bypass New Orleans.  Because Al and Kay did not have full power on the pedestal that they were on, we moved them down to connect onto ours.  Shortly after that, another trawler came in - M/V Lucky Us from Kemah.  They took the spot that Al and Kay were previously in.

After lunch we were going to head out to the great ice cream shop, Scarlet Scoop, for some good ice cream.  I was really looking forward to some "oil spill"!  As we were leaving the marina, the city electricians arrived to work on the power.  They have parts ordered for the 50 amp breakers that were out.  At least they were able to get another 30 amp plug working so the newly arrived trawler would have partial power. We needed to make sure they were not going to turn off the power to the entire marina before we left because two of us have dogs below and needed to keep the AC running.  Once we knew they were not going to turn it off, we all headed off for ice cream.

Sad news!  When we arrived, it was closed (BUMMER).  It went out of business because of the problem with Blue Bell and we were told by a local that the owner decided this was a good time to retire.  They did say that they thought someone may be buying and re-opening it.  We can only hope! The only other place to get ice cream was at a convenience store so off we headed.

During the afternoon we had more boats coming in.  Two cats, another trawler and a small sailboat.  There were now a total of 9 boats in this dockage.  Some were not happy because they did not have power.  The locals told us that this is the most boats they have ever seen except when a storm was coming. Then all the shrimpers rafted uphere and filled the bayou.  Back in 2012 when they took the picture for the marina flyer was the previous occupancy record.  Some locals wanted to know what was going on.

Tows stop here to do a shift change or a food delivery!  It is so funny to watch someone hand off a bag of groceries to the people on the tow.

Docktails!

 Helping another boater come in.
