Mike
Knight coordinated with the bridge and railroad tenders for a 6:00 AM opening
so we all headed out a little before our opening time. It was a beautiful morning, still and with no
wind (Yay!). We started to have
communication problems with some of the tows at this point in our trip. The tow captains have been very informative
and friendly up to this point but we noticed for some reason that some do not
like to communicate now. We entered the
Mississippi Sound with smooth calm water with lots of dolphins jumping around
us. One jumped right in front of our
boat, it came all the way out of the water and flipped it’s tail at us. We
entered the Gulfport Small Craft Harbor around 2:30 and went straight to the
fuel dock for fuel. We were going to get
fuel before leaving New Orleans but the Seabrook Marina’s pump was broken. All four boats were docked by 3:30 PM. It was a good day on the water!!!!! While we
were docking, Levi, a friend who used to be at Portofino Marina (now docked in
Mississippi) contacted us on the radio but we were unable to communicate with
him for very long. At 5:00 PM we all
gathered on S/V Morning Star for happy hour and a trip planning meeting. M/V Awesome 1 informed us that they will be
leaving the group tomorrow to get to the other side of Florida by Thanksgiving
so we will now be down to three boats. The
docks at Gulfport are high and it’s difficult to get on and off the boats so we
all agreed to head out to Biloxi tomorrow.
