11/04/2012 – Sunday – Gulf Shores play day

We woke up to a foggy morning but by 9:30 AM it was almost gone.  We headed out around 10:00 AM in our dinghies to do some marina exploring.  On our way to the Wharf complex a big fishing boat came toward us going full blast throwing a wake that you wouldn’t believe.  Do you think he’d slow down?  Not a chance and our little dinghy went straight up in the air and straight down over and over again.  We were lucky we did not flip over.  There are people in this area that do not understand what a slow bell, no wake or just being courteous means.  Our boat neighbor at LuLu’s provided us with some good information about marinas (like Barber Marina is nice but nothing around it for miles and Pirates Cove “well you decide”).  They were right, Barber’s Marina is a big place, looks new and the docks are very nice.  The price is even cheaper than LuLu’s. It’s just “out in the boonies!” Pirate’s Cove is not for us!  So on our way back we’ll have three nice marinas to choose from.  If we need groceries, it’ll be LuLu’s because the store is only a mile away.  If not, we can stay at The Wharf or Barber’s Marina.  We saw something yellow in the water today and we thought it was trash but when we got closer, it turned out to be a fish!  We had to look at it several times to make sure (definitely a fish - it kept swimming away!) We ran into another sailboat from Kemah named Touche’ that was docked at the Wharf.  Nice people (most cruisers are!) We will probably run into them again during our hop down the coast. Throughout our entire dinghy trip we saw dolphins swimming and playing all around us.  It’s beautiful!
